Adoption Spotlight: Misha and Marco

Okay, I've been really bad lately with updating this blog, especially from the pitty  side of things.
At least I have good reasons for it though. This summer I went back to my job from last summer at the vets office and managed to get a 40 hour work week. Plus I was taking a calculus class at night so there wasn't much time for baking or anything fun.
And now that I'm back in school! But I've been ridiculously busy because I'm trying to start a new club on campus that's all about animal community service. We're going to be working with Pitty Love Rescue to help fundraise as well as with the big local shelter here.

Anyway, I don't want to bore you with my personal life, so on to the dogs.

The first pup I'll be spotlighting this week is the marvelous Misha.  Misha has been with us for longer than I would like. She is an absolute love. She's way more curious now than when she first came to us. Now she loves the camera and wants to stick her cute little nose in it.
Her beautiful orange/ tawny coloring comes out wonderfully in her pictures. I also am absolutely in love with her worried little face. She always looks concerned about something, like she's pondering the problems of the world.

Long story short, Misha is an awesome petite little girl.  We also think that she would do great in agility classes at some point because she is so athletically built and svelte.  Misha would probably do better in a house with out kitties but seems fine with kids.

She also loves to make silly faces:

Marco is a 4 month old, absolute ham as you can see. He was part of a litter that came to Pitty Love at 4 weeks old. He now lives with one of our board members with her daughter and is good with other dogs and cats.

He can be a puppy at times though and loves to run head first into play, which not all other dogs are comfortable with.  From what I've heard, Marco just loves to play and cuddle and be around people at home. I think he would make a wonderful addition to almost any family! I love spending time with him at adoption events because he such a comical little puppy. He loves his squeaky hamburger and didn't want to let Misha play with any of his toys. He is also really inquisitive and loves to explore all over the Petco that we hold our events at. And when he's not allowed to do what he wants he just flops down on the floor and gives you the most fed up little look.

He's also a total goofball:

Marco also makes the most ridiculous faces sometimes.
Looks like he's saying "you want to adopt me right? *wink* *wink*"

As per one of our experienced fosters: "while Marco is a sweet puppy, he is very assertive and will need a family who is dog savvy. Marco will need to keep up with his training in order to maintain his wonderful temperament!"

Zeppelin, a.k.a. the dog formerly known as "Snoop" ADOPTED

Seems like I've been falling in love with a lot of dark colored mature male pits lately. First Debo, and now Zeppelin.  Zep is the sweetest boy.  He's at least seven years old and seems to not be in excellent shape physically.  He's clearly underweight and has some sort of skin condition going on. This poor boy was all itchy and uncomfortable in his own skin despite us having him in our care for a few weeks.

Today was his first day in training.  He did really well, considering we were teaching him a completely different name from what he has been used to for the last seven years.  His name used to be "Snoop," which I think is hilarious, especially when you look into his big sweet face.  The whole drive to training I had "Snoop Dog, Baby" by Reel Big Fish stuck in my head.

Anyway, Zep did a good job starting to learn his new name and was starting to respond to it more by the end of our hour long training session. We played a lot of the "name game" which consists of immediately giving him a treat when I say his name. Basically rewarding him for hearing his new name.  He didn't have to react or anything, just hear his name and eat his treat.  Then we took him outside to continue his training with a few more distractions.  At first he was dragging me all over the place. He may be underweight, but boy is he powerful. Luckily he's just a big mush who wanted to sniff everything and was completely unreactive to the other dogs, even when they were getting overexcited.

By the end of training he was walking fantastically on the leash, not dragging me at all.  He followed me like a little lamb and automatically sat and stared at me when we stopped moving! I was happily surprised.  If this is how much he can learn in just an hour I can't wait to see where he will be in a few weeks.

Unfortunately I think this is the last time this semester that I'll be able to work with Pitty Love because I have to go back home soon.  Hopefully all my favorite dogs will be gone by the time I get back! My absolute favorite dog Oreo already got adopted which was kind of bittersweet for me, but I'm glad he got a good home.

Adoption Spotlight: Dashing Debo! ADOPTED

Oh Debo, how my heart bursts with affection for you!
This giant meat-head is the most ridiculously affectionate dog I think I've ever met.  Admittedly, he looks a little intimidating at first (although you can't tell that in these pictures). Even me, being the pit lover that I am was a little intimidated when I first walked up to him and saw that enormous pitty grin:

It seems silly now that I've met him, but that grin looks like it could absolutely swallow you up! Debo instantly showed me how wrong that thought was:

Debo is absolutely the biggest mush I have ever met.  It took a lot of patience and blurry pictures to get some good ones of him because all he wanted to do was be right up in your face being loved. And yes, there are a ton of pictures of him because I just couldn't help but love that gorgeous face!

If Debo's heart is half the size of his head I'm sure he'll be the most loving dog in the world.

He's also a huge goof.

I think belly rubs are his absolute favorite. He stayed like this for about ten minutes straight and would flop over to get a tummy rub if someone even started to walk towards him:

Some of the smaller puppies didn't quite know what to think of him, but all Debo wanted to do was be best friends.  Even with such an imposing presence, this boy managed to win over the hearts of everyone that was there.

If I was able to adopt a dog, Debo would probably be at the top of my list.  You've never met a more kindhearted and friendly dog.  All he wants to do is be part of a family again. Can you find a place for his giant head in your family?

Debo has since been adopted!

Tessie being adorable ADOPTED

Pitty Puppies!

Meet Miss Tessie!

She's the happiest, wiggliest little puppy I think I've ever met.  As soon as she sees someone walking towards her, or even look at her, her whole body starts to waggle.  She wiggles so hard that the tip of her tail touches her shoulders :

She adores everyone. Kids, puppies, big dogs, little dogs, everyone!  Just look at that perfect pitty smile! Could she look any cuter?  She's only three months old and full of life.  If you're in the Rochester area you should really come see her! She would love to meet you!

This is Tige! He's the cutest little puppy. Unfortunately he's already adopted and was just there for socialization, but I couldn't help but share some pictures of him anyway:

I don't know what he thinks he did, but he has such a good guilty face:

Pitty Friday!: Lily and Henrietta

This week I present to you two beautiful white pitty girls.  The first is Lily!

Lily is a sweet girl.  She's full of energy and life and just wants to be a dog.  She's one of those dogs where her spirit shines through in every picture of her, she even winks:

Unfortunately, Lily lost her home when her owners divorced.  She's perfectly housetrained, has good leash manners, and loves everybody!  Her energy level means that she probably shouldn't be adopted by a family with small children.  I think she would love to live with an active family and go on hikes and adventures.

Someone please come adopt Lily! She is so ready to love you!:

Our other white pitty girl from Friday's adoption event was Henrietta!

While Lily likes to wink, Henrietta loves to GRIN!:

Henrietta is a super special little pup.  She's actually deaf, which isn't all that uncommon for white pitties.  She's doing very well learning her hand signals and behaves very well around other dogs and children. If you've had some experience with deaf dogs before, Henrietta would love for you to come meet her!

Pitty Friday: Puppy Overload

This past Friday I had the pleasure of not only driving two U of R volunteers to the adoption event, but I also got to drive three puppies!

You've all seen Faye before, with her wonderful ears and personality.  Faye is about six months old now and doing very well in her training, especially because she is very food motivated.  She also LOVES her foster sisters and cuddles with them all the time.

Unfortunately, she managed to chew through her harness and was stuck in a martingale collar on Friday.  Faye loves to play with other dogs and is easily prevented from bounding off to play with her harness, but not so much with her martingale collar.  Unfortunately, with the collar she was stressing herself out and choking so we had to bring her home.

Colby is one of our brand new babies.  She is a sweetheart who is interested in every little thing that's going on around her.  Unfortunately for this sweet baby, the adoption event was a little overwhelming for her and she was stressing out so she had to go home.  She was getting along well with other dogs, just overexcited.  She was a sweetie that we just wanted to cuddle and play with all night long.

She was super silly in the car!

Vera is only about four months old but is doing very well with her training.  She has sit mostly figured out already.  While at the adoption event she worked really hard on learning the "down" command and had it more or less mastered by the end of the night.

Out of the three puppies that we brought on Friday she was by far the most mellow and calm.  All she wanted was the food we were using to train her.  She even ignored her foster sisters' antics and showed how nicely she sat for some potential adopters.

No page for baby Colby yet :( I'll try to update when one is made

Chip in for Marvelous Manny!

Poor, precious Manny.  Manny is one of the most recent additions to Pitty Love Rescue.  He is a wonderful pup with an unfortunate condition.  At some point when he was younger, he most likely suffered some sort of injury to his front legs.  Combined with malnutrition, this has resulted in his front legs being deformed.

Even after being dumped on someone's porch then being brought to a shelter, Manny is as sweet as pie and just wants to play like a normal puppy.  Here's some more information about Manny from Pitty Love's webpage and facebook:

"Please meet Manny. This is a hard video to watch as his two front legs are severely deformed... For now his legs don't seem to slow him down but they are affecting other ares of his body, so that will change. We realize this is a tough case but this little guy is SO sweet, we couldn't NOT give him a chance. His spirit is so bright!..."

"Manny went to see a specialist last week about his legs and the Dr. who saw him is very confident he can help Manny.  It will take major surgery but it will also give Manny the ability to walk upright and get around a lot more normally.  Many people may ask us why. Why this little dog? Our response? Because he is sweetness defined and he deserves his chance!  Manny was once someone's throw away but he is now and will always be part of the PLR family."

Description of the surgery:
"Essentially sections of bone need to be removed from each leg so they can put plates in place of the bone.  This will allow Manny to stand upright and walk around a lot more normally... We realize this surgery is extensive and expensive but the specialist is essentially doing the surgery at an extremely reduced cost.  The chip in amount includes surgery, weekly bandage changes for 8 weeks, and follow-up x-rays. Any amount donated will be completely appreciated, $1, $5, $10, no amount is too small! Please consider helping Manny!"

Adoption Spotlight: Holly

Poor Miss Holly.  It always breaks my heart to see a momma without her babies.  Holly's story is particularly heartbreaking.  She was found this winter in a Kodak parking lot, abandoned in her crate.  She was still full of milk and miserable without her babies.

How could you throw a face like this out in the cold by herself:

Despite still being away from her babies, Holly has rallied in an impressive way.  She is such a sweetheart.  She has a light in her that you wouldn't expect from a dog with such a recent trauma in her life:

Ever the momma pitty, she loves everyone around her.  She's still just a baby herself, only a year and a half old and you can tell that she just wants to be loved.  Whenever she can, she tries to cuddle with the people around her, crawling daintily onto the nearest offered lap:

She loves children, especially the canine kind which is not surprising since it seems like she wasn't able to spend a lot of time with her own.  She gets so excited when she sees a puppy, maybe she thinks it's one of her babies coming back to her:

Holly is looking for the comfort and protection of a safe forever home.  She would do wonderfully in any home setting, whether with a single owner, couple or family.  She just wants to love and be loved, and maybe be a lap dog if you let her.

How could you say no to this face?:

Holly is available in the Rochester, NY area.  If you are interested please go to her web page to learn more and fill out an application to be her forever home.

Adoption Spotlight: Adalai

That big, perfect pitty grin belongs to the amazing Adalai! How could you resist that smile?  For my first spotlight on an adoptable dog from Pitty Love Rescue, I chose this gorgeous girl because she has such a fabulous personality.  Everything about Adalai just screams "Love me!"  She seems like the perfect family dog.  I bet she would love playing with kids or snoring belly up on a couch next to you while you watch tv.

Here's a quote from Adalai's page at Pitty Love:
Meet Adalai! This sweet girl is smaller than she looks, she's a pocket pitty at only 35 pounds! She is a little shy but warms up quickly and just wants to be loved. And she gives the sweetest tiny kisses!
She is great with other dogs as she currently lives with four others and plays appropriately with all.
Please give this little girl the life she deserves with the only thing she wants; to be loved.

Adalai didn't show any of that supposed "shyness" when I met her. Even with my big scary camera in her face she was unperturbed.  She was such a ham:

It's 100% true about those pitty kisses though! She loves to give them to anyone who with have them.  She's perfectly gentle about it though.  Adalai is one of those dogs that thinks she's a lap dog, and at 35 pounds, it works better for her than it does for most big dogs.

Adalai is up for adoption in the Rochester, NY area.  She's fully housetrained and good with other dogs.  She loves to play with everyone around her, even if they just met.
